You Are The Keymaster

You don’t need approval!

Don’t seek permission!

You are the Key Master!

You are your own gatekeeper. You are the Key Master. The traditional gatekeeper is no longer relevant. You control your access to your creative efforts.

Don’t waste time waiting to be chosen. Put it out there. Do great work and publish. Do OK work and publish. Do shitty work and publish.

I have spent my whole life trying to be chosen. Then, a couple of years ago, the curtain got pulled back. Even those that were chosen in the days of the gatekeepers, made it happen. They knew they had this gift that they just had to share, and would not stop until they did.

Now, we don’t have to wait. We can just publish. If it’s good, it gets shared. If it’s not good, learn and try again until it is. Whatever “IT” is.

I learned an important phrase in my early years in sales: “It’s better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.” That’s is a little shady, but it’s the point. Sometimes we know what we need to do, yet we let fear of upsetting someone stop us. I’m not saying we need to hurt each other. I am saying that growth and change is painful at times, and we use excuses to avoid it.

The other problem is the gatekeeper usually once to change it when they do choose you. Create an illusion. Dress this way, say this thing, don’t do this or that. Forget that man, authenticity is what we like and crave.

You want to start an online business? Start it.

You want to make movies? Make movies.

You want to write songs? Write them.

And then PUBLISH!!! Put it out there. Don’t wait for the publisher to say it’s good enough. It might suck, great then not many will see your practice. It might be awesome though.

Remember, a gatekeeper passed on The Beatles before they were “The Beatles.”

Not all gatekeepers are bad, many are great, and very useful. Just don’t let them stop you from creating your life.
